In this website’s impression of the demo for Kirby and the Forgotten Land it was stated that “Kirby plays almost exactly like he did in Kirby Super Star on the SNES over 25 years ago”. However, there was one mechanic that wasn’t in Kirby Super Star that was missed. It can be done using the following inputs:
Hold crouch and move opposite of the direction Kirby is facing
If you do this, Kirby does a backflip in that direction and becomes invincible during it. With some copy abilities this is impossible to do, so try switching to a different one if it isn’t working for you. A screenshot of this happening can be seen at the top of this article.
Like in the Bayonetta series, time slows down for everything except Kirby if an enemy attacks you during this dodge. There is a short period where Kirby can take advantage of this to get some free hits in, but not to the same extent as is possible in the Bayonetta games.
This doesn’t have much of an effect on how good the game will be, but it is cool to watch. The game comes out on March 25th, 2022.
