With the next generation of consoles coming out, gamers are probably wondering which consoles they should pick up, if any. As usual there are a lot of pros and cons to each console, which are especially amplified as Sony and Microsoft release their consoles next to each other. This article will explain why based on what we know right now the next Xbox is already worth getting.
The first reason is one of the strongest to get any console over another, the exclusives. Although a lot of Xbox One exclusives have been heading to PC (which doesn’t really matter in this conversation) and other consoles, theres still plenty of games that almost certainly won’t leave Xbox and Windows. Its not like other consoles aren’t losing exclusives often too, the PS4 has had countless exclusives that turned out to be timed or just circumstantial like Crash Bandicoot, Nier: Automata, Yakuza, The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, Death Stranding, and more, and Nintendo in general as well as the Switch have done the same with Wonderful 101, Daemon x Machina, Octopath Traveler, Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes, and more as well. Games like Halo Infinite and the future of the Forza Horizon series as well as whatever else Playground Games is working on are looking very promising for potential buyers of the next Xbox.
Xbox also seems to be trying a lot harder to actually get games on their console than ever before. We recently saw this with the old Kingdom Hearts games finally coming to Xbox One, Yakuza finally coming to Xbox One, and Microsoft somehow bringing PSO2 to the west on Xbox first. This can even be seen elsewhere like with My Friend Pedro which Xbox managed to get before PlayStation, seemingly to get it on Xbox Game Pass.
We also already know the hardware of at least the Xbox Series X is going to be very good. It will seemingly be more or less silent and highly reliable considering how much effort was clearly put into the cooling system. Microsoft will also likely provide better hardware than what you could buy yourself for a personal computer for the same price like they did with the Xbox One X, and the next Xbox isn’t going to have to go through Windows to run its games. The already far above average controller is also seemingly getting refined even further which is unlikely to disappoint considering how much better the Xbox One S model of the controller was. Overall everything points to Microsoft making the strongest and nicest console to use again like they did with the Xbox One X.
The next Xbox is probably going to be close to if not the best value on the market like the Xbox One is right now. This is of course thanks to Xbox Game Pass. At this point the selection is so good and it keeps getting better that we are at the point where you don’t even really need to buy any games to have any games to have a great experience on Xbox. This will be especially true as all of Microsoft’s recently purchased and old studios start pumping out next-gen games that will be on Xbox Game Pass day one for no additional cost. Gamers probably won’t even have to buy Xbox Game Pass for probably three months or longer after getting the next Xbox considering how willing Microsoft is to give out Xbox Game Pass for free or for extremely cheap.
The next Xbox won’t be a great value just because of Xbox Game Pass though. The backwards compatibility from Xbox One is confirmed to carry over to the next Xbox, which is an exciting value proposition. Anyone who owns Xbox games of any types probably already has plenty of games to play on the next Xbox. This isn’t especially true for the original Xbox, but Microsoft has hinted at continuing to expand the program once the next Xbox is out. This won’t just be playing old games though. Microsoft has been patching backwards compatible games to run at 4k on Xbox One X, which will certainly carry over to the next Xbox, possibly even reaching 8k or whatever the highest multiple of 720p they could achieve is on Xbox Series X. Even games that aren’t patched are better, though. Texture filtering is improved across the board, and a lot of the framerate drops have been severely reduced, even on the not especially powerful base Xbox One despite emulation being used. On the next Xbox its safe to assume basically every backwards compatible game will run perfectly, then. Basically the next Xbox is going to be like the Xbox One X but even more powerful, and it will play next-gen games too. Its also going to support the same peripherals like the Xbox One X did which will save gamers a lot of money, too.
Another advantage of the next Xbox is that its going to be tied with the best streaming service out (in beta at least) right now. It isn’t clear how it could be leveraged but something like letting you stream the game as your disc drive downloads it so you don’t have to wait to play is a serious possibility. Outside of the console it will obviously be useful too as it makes potentially all of the digital games you invest into playable on potentially any device through game streaming.
Surely there are going to be other reasons to get the next Xbox, like the already announced pausing of two games at once, but even from what we already know now the next Xbox is shaping up to be pretty good.
